Subject filters enable you to create more than one Newsfeed page on your website, and have each Newsfeed page display posts that cover different topics.
- Click on the “Manage Site” tab on the vertical Dashboard menu at the left side of the screen
- Click on the “Site Setup” tab.
- In Site Setup, locate your Newsfeed page in the vertical menu. Click on the name of your Newsfeed page to load the page for editing.
- In the main editing window, activate the Enable Subject Filtering checkbox to incorporate filtering on this Newsfeed.
- Click on the Add/Edit/Delete Subjects button to create a filter.
- Enter the name of the filter in the “Subject” box. The name should be a self-explanatory term that describes the focus of the filter.
- Activate the “Is Private” checkbox if you want to make the filter private. Posts for a subject that is set to be private will not appear in the Recent News widget on the Home page of your public website.
- Click on the “Update” button to add the filter.
- Repeat this process as many times as necessary to set up all the filters you want to create for this Newsfeed.
- Note that simply creating a filter does not make it active. After you have created your filter(s), click on the “Newsfeed Subject” dropdown menu to open it so you can activate the filters you want to use. Click on the checkbox in front of each filter name to activate that filter.
- The filters you create on a Newsfeed do not appear on or apply to any other Newsfeed-templated website page. These are standalone filters that only work on the page on which you create them.
- If you created posts before you set up your filters (i.e., posts to which no filter is applied), these posts will not show up on any filtered Newsfeed.
- If you create an unfiltered Newsfeed, it will not display or respond to any filters, and will display all posts.
- On a Newsfeed with only one filter, you will not see any filter-selection mechanism in the posting interface.
- On a Newsfeed with more than one filter, you’ll select from a dropdown menu of filters when you create your post. This determines which filter or filters apply to your post.
- On a multi-subject Newsfeed, you can use filters to determine which posts you view. Note that your filter selection only applies to the Newsfeed page until you close that browser window or tab, or navigate away from the page. It is not a permanent filter.
